These images are more than just a video to me. They’re an ode to a building that carries the soul of Asperen. And every time I fly over it, I’m reminded why I love doing this so much: because I want to let places speak in ways they cannot on their own.
When I take off with my drone above Asperen, I always feel a quiet sense of anticipation. As if the landscape wants to reveal something that usually stays hidden. And every single time, one building draws my attention: the Reformed Church. From the ground it’s already impressive, but from the air it truly unfolds its story.
As I rise higher, I see how the tower stands like a beacon above the old fortifications. The church isn’t just placed in the heart of Asperen; it anchors the town. From my perspective, the contours of the building fit so naturally into the landscape that it feels as if it has always belonged exactly there. The weathered stones, the medieval foundation, the later additions—everything becomes visible in one smooth movement of my camera.
What touches me most is the play of light and shadow. The sun brushing along the tower, the rooflines lighting up, the small details you never notice from the street. It feels as if the church is introducing itself to me all over again. Not as an old monument, but as a living part of the community. A place where generations have left their stories behind.
From above, I also see how the church forms a moment of calm within the tight street pattern. The shadow of the tower glides across the square like a hand of time, and for a moment everything seems to slow down. That’s when I realize how special this place truly is.
For many people in Asperen, the Reformed Church is a familiar sight. But through my drone footage, I can show how unique its position is within the old fortifications, how rich its architecture is, and how it stands as an anchor point in the landscape. It feels like I get to share a new perspective on something everyone knows, but not everyone has seen this way.
