Droneflying : Stuw- en sluizencomplex

On a clear day above the Hagestein Weir and Lock Complex, you really get to see how special this place is. As the drone slowly rises, the entire structure unfolds beneath you: the large radial gates arching gracefully over the river Lek, the locks that have been doing their job since 1960, and the water flowing in a steady, almost natural rhythm. From the air, the whole scene has a calm beauty you simply don’t notice as much from the ground.

On the south side, the fish passage immediately stands out. Built in 2004, it winds its way along the concrete like a natural ribbon. From above, it’s striking to see how a technical structure like this still makes room for nature and movement, as if the complex and the river have known and understood each other for years.

The entire weir and lock complex sits right next to the village of Hagestein, in the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden. If you want to see it for yourself, just follow the Lekdijk. From the dike, you get a beautiful view of the weir, the locks, and the fish passage. On a clear day, like when I filmed these drone shots, everything comes together: engineering, landscape, water, and light.

It’s always special to capture a place like this from above. You don’t just see how it works — you see how beautiful it really is.
